Research and Planning: Shot list redo

After filming twice now and nearly having our first cut done we decided it would be helpful if we have a shot list of the things that we need to reshoot so when we film again we know what to force on, the ones in green are the ones to re film in the woods and then blue is the car park we did this as a group and picked things that we all thought we could redo to make the shoot, or angle look better.
  • Re-shoot shot of tilt up from woodland floor or replace with an abandoned object.
  • Shoot medium shot of guitarist playing solitary note at the start of the song.
  • Re-shoot bird's eye angle of drummer playing the beat. Visual match audio.
  • Long shot of band playing together.
  • Low angle shot of drums.
  • Side shot of band preforming- Tilted angle.
  • Medium shot of guitarist playing note.
  • Wide angle shot of band playing, camera tilts down to car park floor.
  • Camera tilts up from woodland floor to woods.
  • Re-shoot low angle shot of vocalist jumping over the camera.
  • Re-shoot bird's eye angle of the band running through the woods- create more enigma.
  • Re-shoot close- up of vocalist.
  • Re-shoot close-up of vocalist, head moving down.
  • Re-shoot close-up of vocalist pointing at the camera.
  • Re-shoot medium long shot of guitarist playing.
  • Re-shoot shot of band running through woods- side angle.
  • Re-shoot low angle close-up of drummer hitting the base drum.
  • Re-shoot close-up of vocalist head banging.
  • Re-shoot medium close-up of guitarist playing.
  • Re-shoot close-up of guitarist 2 playing.
  • Re-shoot vocalist acting out actions.
  • Get rid of band helping up guitarist and replace with shot of object next to the guitarist on the ground. (or something else)
  • Film more close-ups and shots of band preforming.
  • Re-shoot close-up in the car park.
  • Quick cuts to the objects.
  • Re-film close-up of guitar.
  • Re-place the siking up shots.

Research and Planning: Costumes

When filming we had to make sure that our actors wore the right costume to fit in with are genre, and also that we remember what there wore so that the mise en scène looks the same in are filming and so the audience cant tell that filmming has been done over different period of time and all the same, this links to the conventions of a heavy mental genre we made sure that there wore black jeans, or short for the drummer and then band mech t-shirts/jumper of the same genre as themselves.
This also links back to bands that wear the clothing that are actors are going to wear:

Research and Planning: Lighting & colour editing

We have finished filming for the time being therefore we have been focused on post production and looking/ using different effects in are music video. The main effect we have used in our video is the blink effect this is to as the strobe effect we think it worked better then the strobing, this effected is used in the main breakdown of the song where it getting really heavy and is all instrumental. we also editing the speed at which are music video opening so we have added slow motion to the water drop because it makes it more dramatic and because the music starts of slowly.

we also changed the brightness levels of the performance section to the  video because it have a yellow tone to it from the lighting in the car park, also to link with the convections of metal music having ark and dull lighting, they don't show bright colours, we moved the black to 88 and then white down to -12.

Research and Planning: How filming is going?

Filming has been going very well we have filmed twice in the car park now and going to film once more, we have found it very helpful to watching all the footage over and add it in to are timeline on final cut pro and then write up a shot list of the things we need to refilm so that we know what sections we need and how we should shoot then, the narrative filming has gone well to with us about to work on our ancillary task at the same time taking still images that we could use towards are album artwork. post production is coming together well as a team effort with our first cut near complete and been able to add in effects like the strobing with has work well and links in with the music and genre. now that the film is nearly complete we are going to focus on the ancillary tasks, hopefully producing a album cover and magazine add we are all happy with.

Research and Planning: Setting up

One of our group member thought it would be a good idea to take picture of us setting up ready for are first filming in the car park, we found a good stop outside the car park and set up there but then as the light went we went inside the car park and started film because we then had lighting.

Research and Planning: Equipment

The filming equipment that we used to film are music video was similar to the same equipment we used in AS so we know how it all worked, but this time we had some new equipment when is came to the gorilla pod and steadi cam. The main equipment that we needed to film was the HD camera and a tripod to get different highs and angles in are filming, for some of the low shoots like the shoot of the drum kit from below we laid on the floor holding the camera still. When is came to the shoot in the forest we used the steadi cam of the the running shoots to give it a smooth and not a bounce effect that you would get if you was just running its the camera, which we found last year.

Research and Planning: Editing Lighting &colour

We have been editing all our footage together using many effects with in final cut pro to make are video link and flow well, one of the biggest things we have added is the blink effected we changed our mind from the strobe to the blink as we think it works better this is only used in a small section of the video which is the main breakdown in the middle part to enhance the heavy music being played.

Other effect that we have changes is the speed of which and music video starts adding slow motion to the water drop to back it more dramatic we wanted this because the music start quite slowly and quiet plus it is also the first thing you see.

we also changed the colour contrast because when looking back at our footage we saw that the car park lighting gave the shot a yellow tone to them, so we reduced the brightness and contrast which then links back to the convention of a metal music video will dark drim lighting and not may bright colours to be seen.

Research and Planning: Pitch

Last week we Pitched the ideas to our music video to the rest of are class and teacher to see what there thought were about are ideas for are music video to help pitch this we made a short prezi with included small details and images but was just like a started slide before each sections that we spoke about, Furthermore we also mad a animation to the first section of are storyboard to help us and also the audience understand the type of concept we are looking to achieve.

Research and Planning: Voyeurism

What is voyeurism?
Voyeurism is the sexual interest in or practice of spying on people engaged in intimate behaviors, such as undressing, sexual activity, or other actions usually considered to be of a private nature. There is frequently reference to notion of looking( mirror, screen within screens, stages etc.) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body. A good example of a music video that shows voyeurism is Wiley-Heatwave
In class we put all are ideas of the video together into a big mind map and this is what we come up with.

From this we them went off into group and drew up a storyboard including voyeurism shoots, including close up, tilting angles up and panning shoots. Doing this helped a lot because it helped us chose weather we are going to use it in are video and also different types of camera angles.

Research and Planning: More Locations shots

we continued to look for locations that's we could film in and as we have been researching we came across a loyal guys flickr account that has abandoned building which are all from around the same area as us, after log and hard debating we came to the conclusion because of health and safe for our actors we will not be able to film in an abandoned building therefore we are now going to set are performance part of our music video in a car park.

Research and Planning: Lyrics

we have final been given the lyrics off the band because we were unable to find them on the internet.

We live in a heartless society,
void of all empathy,
drowning itself.
I don't want to bring down your glass house,
But this time it's coming down now either way.

Heed my words,
You will fall,
Your sense of self importance,
Will fucking kill us all.

I'm watching the poison come from your mouth,
Spreading your venom like rats in a plague.
Goddamn, if I hear just another word leave from your fucking mouth,
You won't be saved.

Heed my words,
You will fall,
Your sense of self importance,
Will fucking kill us all.

This is not a war,
This is annihilation.
This is not a battle,
This is eradication.

Heed my words,
You will fall,
Your sense of self importance,
Will fucking kill us all.

Research and Planning: Story board

We decided to continue with are storyboard adding in  the first 12 shoot we had already planned but on a storyboard sheet so that when I comes to film we can take the storyboard with us, furthermore they are more detailed and included times and a little section of writing to show what is happening in the shot. towards the end of the story board there are a few empty shots because we haven't decided what will be happening then.

Research and Planning: Stylistic Conventions with metal

The stylistic Conventions of metal has changed over the years. in the late 1980's early 1990's the majority of Heavy metal Had evolved into other rock genres like hard Rock, grunge, Gothic rock and trash metal. The 1980s saw bands like Iron Maiden, a British heavy metal band from London which is still successful today having thirty-six albums, fifteen studio albums and ten live albums. there success was helped to be achieved with several headlining positions at festivals and are still seen to be one of the looked for bands at any rock/metal event. The 1990's show a band called Metallic from Los Angeles they have released nine studio albums, four live albums, 25 music videos and 45 singles, therefrom they have also won nine Grammes. This band has been credited as one of the big four of thrash metal along with Slayer, Anthrax and Megedeth. both these bands are seen as classic metal bands but this changes when bands such as Nirvana came along. young messy lads from the middle of no where they changed metal to a grunge scene. Nirvana became unexpected success with smells like teen spirit the first single from the band's second album nevermind, but the band was only around for a brief run with ended after the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994, but their records continued to sell well with over 25 million records in the united states alone being sold and then over 75 million records worldwide.

From this success Heavy Metal has become huge with teenagers and young adults across many countries. Furthermore the conventions to metal is a traditionally performance video which focus on the instruments the  grunge look  a good example is led zeppelin but over time this has now changed to what is seen as " pretty boys" with bring me the horizon , Ollie Sykes showing and the most know metal artist around today but no longer showing the metal idea of long hair and eyeliner but, covered in tattoos and having what is seen as sex appeal , but with smart short hair so the idea of boy band type feel to it. Ollie Sykes is also a good example of how band no longer just focus on there music to sell there albums but making there fan base bigger by having a clothing line ( drop dead) which Ollie Sykes designs and also wears the clothes showing how the music business has changed.

Linking this back to ravenface i think there show both aspects but mainly more the newer type of metal look, to they like to show links back the other artists similar by wearing band tops, and skinny jeans wherefore past band such as 'kiss' would wear what ti be seen as more outrageous clothing with mainly leather but also lots of make up/ face paint and had a ever iconic look to them.

Portfolio: Bedouin Soundclash

Today in media we looked at starting to work towards are ancillary task, we got give a pack with was full of pictures and information on a band call Bedouin soundclash we had to guess what type of music they may be, this band include one white guy and two black guy are first thought were that they are going to be a rap, R&B type group because of the stereotype black guys rappers
we then mind mapped information about the band to give us a better idea of what type of album artwork work they would have and how they may be soon in the music videos.

working together and after listening to one of there songs we came up with a album cover which included the Canadian flag as the background and then the band in front, furthermore doing this helped us to start thinking of ideas that we could use in our ancillary task.
